Beyond travel. Travel beyond.

Spreading the love

During years of exploring other continents, other shores, other waves and other communities, we have found that conscientious travel is our deep rooted value.

Therefore we are very supportive of and will accommodate your interest in beach cleanups and volunteering at the local dog shelter. Just tell us what your secret calling is and we'll help you as best we can to give something back and spread the love.

Elaine also organises casual urban sketch group outings. Sketching or painting is a nice way to truly pay attention to, and appreciate, your surroundings and maybe take home an authentic souvenir of your visit.

Beach clean-up

Whereas surfers do rave about a clean beach and clean water, we definitely have a part to own in the contribution to littering and pollution. A forgotten water bottle, a food wrapper caught by the wind, nevermind the fact that we often travel one surfer per car.

Peniche has an active presence of ocean warriors (Marmeu, Mestres do Oceano, Ocean Patrol, to name a few) but the real policy is, everybody can do their bit.

Beach clean-ups are a fun and social way of owning a part of the reality of beach and ocean pollution.

Volunteering with animals

Did you know that Rupert was once a CRAPAA dog too?

CRAPAA stands for "protective association for abandoned animals" in Caldas da Rainha. We have a municipal dog shelter in Peniche too. There seems to be no end to the influx of abandoned dogs needing veterinary care, needing food and shelter, and most of all, needing love.

That's where you come in! Even if you have only and hour or two to give, walking dogs or even just sitting with them to help them overcome their fear, every little truly helps.

Urban sketching

Let's face it. Digital nomadism can sometimes feel like  a shallow and lonely lifestyle. Nomads may struggle with not feeling settled, or missing out on a sense of community. After all Homo Sapiens are tribal animals. This article are the words of a nomad who realised that sometimes our perspective of a place is really a projection of what we bring to it.

In short, you get what you give.

Urban sketching is a relaxing way of switching off work mode, disengaging from computerised media, appreciating our surroundings (in the moment!) with present eyes, and maybe most importantly, socialising!

So don't hesitate...Lets get stuck in!
